Are you having enough fun?

fun

The concept of having fun has been on my mind for several days now, for a couple of reasons.

Firstly, I’ve been a busy bee lately, with fingers in a lot of pies, juggling a variety of commitments (including the fabulous B-School and a wonderful performance of 17th Century music) and, I’ll be honest, I’ve been struggling to manage my time. The result of this was that ‘me time’ started to get squeezed out of the equation.

I was enjoying everything that I was doing but I had less time to just chill out, relax and have spontaneous fun. I really missed that. Having fun is really important to me. That got me wondering about fun. According to the Oxford dictionary fun is (as a noun)

  • enjoyment, amusement, or light-hearted pleasure

How often to you give yourself time for that? Do you have rules around it, around how much fun you deserve to have or what you need to do before you allow yourself to have fun?

For me, it can be the simple pleasures that are the most fun –  a walk in the countryside, getting out into my garden, playing with my dog, hearing birdsong, reading a good book, catching up with friends or just having a good laugh.

That brings me to the second reason that fun has been on my mind. This coming Sunday, 5th May, is World Laughter Day. There will be laughter events worldwide. I am a great fan of laughter yoga and laughter clubs, so much so that I lead regular skype laughter sessions for skype laughter club. There is something really special about people coming together with the intention to just laugh – no jokes or reasons necessary. Laughter is indeed a powerful medicine and one of my favorite ways to raise my mood and energy levels and get a smile on my face.

I’d love to hear from you now. How do you like to have fun and how can you bring more fun into your life, even in little ways? Let me know in the comments under the blog post. Thank you.
