Have you ever had a day, or even a week when it feels like everything is going wrong, even if it’s just small things, and you just want to hide under the covers?
This week started that way for me when a flea issue on my dog escalated, despite treatment (it’s no fun when a flea lands in your partner’s cup of tea in the morning, believe me). Then I noticed the weeds suddenly having a HUGE growth spurt and taking over in the garden – which should already be planted up with veg and flowers (but isn’t despite having it all planned out). Then, yesterday, I had some payment issues. It was enough to make my head spin.
I noticed myself really getting caught up in those issues and the chaotic energy around them. That’s how it all snowballs, and it’s easy to go into drama about it or start judging ourselves (well, it is embarrassing to be the thought gardener with a weedy garden and the animal energy therapist who’s dog has fleas – but – that’s life, it isn’t always perfect).
So, here’s the first things that I do when I catch myself getting negative or wanting to hide from the chaos when everything is going pear shaped at the same time.
- Make peace
What we resist persists – so when we’re ‘fighting’ a situation, we’re feeding the negative energy of it. If we can just accept that it is what is here right now and start to make peace with that, we open to fresh perspectives and can feel immediate relief.
- Let go of the self judgement
This is just adding insult to injury and is the opposite of what you need when things are tough. Tap it out – you can tap along with me in a previous video here.
- Nap or meditate
This really works for me. Resting or meditating completely resets my energy. If I’m frazzled and not dealing with a situation well a 15 minute rest or meditation often helps me regain a brighter perspective and see things differently.
- Tap
I use a special tapping technique to deal with this sort of situation where there is so much going on that it’s hard to know what to focus on or where to start. Click on the picture below to watch the video and find out more, or click here if you don’t see the picture.
Now, I’d love to hear from you. How do you cope when everything seems to go pear shaped? How do you re-set your energy and mindset? I also turn to friends, get out in nature and rest well. Let me know what helps you and tell me if tapping along with this week’s video has been useful too.

Hi Ferris! I had to smile when I read your line about being a Thought Gardener with a garden full of weeds and an animal energy specialist with a flea-ridden pet. 🙂 That’s part of what I’m dealing with now, having gained back a lot of weight when I’m just about to head back to holistic nutrition school. Like you say, that’s life! I think our trials and tribulations are what make us human as well as accessible to other people in our lives. Perfection isn’t just unattainable– it’s intimidating!
My take home message from this post hones in on saying goodbye to self judgment. Being critical of ourselves only fuels the fire of chaos, so thanks again for your tapping videos and for showing us how to get that critical energy packing.
I’m glad I made you smile Dana and reminded you that it’s really ok to be ‘imperfect’ in life (whether it’s weeds, fleas or weight!).
Your take home message is great – lets all say goodbye to self judgement and self criticism. I’m so glad that my tapping videos are helpful for that.
