When we find ourselves in seemingly negative or challenging situations it can seem really hard to be positive or optimistic. We can feel de-railed. It seems like we’re hard wired to look for danger or to be on guard and when we find something ‘wrong’ it’s easy to get consumed by it – to worry, to focus on the problem, to ‘look at the wreckage’ or imagine things getting even worse.
So what do we do?
1. Accept and make peace with it
The phrase ‘what we resist persists’ comes to mind. The more we shout about how we don’t want something, the more we focus upon it and the further we are from creating something different.
Yet, if we make peace with what is happening, we soften our energy around it and it becomes easier to allow positive changes to take place.
2. Go general
This is an Abraham-Hicks tecnhique that I love. ‘Going general’ means that we get less specific about the situation (especially if it’s negative), we stop looking at the negative details and we maybe think how it will pass, how it isn’t as important as we can think it to be. We can then start to be generally positive and focus on how others have triumphed over similar circumstances or think of how quickly situations can change.
3. Feel into what you DO want
Once we are feeling a bit more positive then it’s time to re-focus on what we really want. Once you know what you don’t want, then you also know what you DO want (the opposite usually). So, if you’ve been struggling financially instead of worrying about mounting debts and lack of cashflow you can focus on how you want more financial security, additional income or better ways to manage and reduce your debt.
Ask yourself how it would feel to get what you want?
Would you feel excited, satisfied, relieved, overjoyed? Allow yourself to feel those feelings as if what you wanted was already real in your life.
4. Use your imagination and allow what you do want to happen.
Now you have the feel of what you want, it’s time to use your imagination and daydream – playing out scenarios of what you want in your mind. Not only will it feel good but you’ll start to look for and notice things like it in your life becuase your mind searches for the familliar (think about wanting to buy a blue car – you’ll see them EVERYWHERE).
So, be open to possibilities and opportunities and allow them to show up for you.
Tap along with me.
Sometimes, we need a bit of extra help shifting out of our negative thought patterns. This is where the tool of EFT tapping comes to the fore. I’ve created a tapping video you can follow along with to help you shift your focus from ‘what is’ to ‘what’s wanted’. Click here or on the image below to watch the video and try it for yourself.
What do you think?
Do you struggle when you encounter unwanted situations in your life, or do you have ways to help you stay firmly focused on what you want? Let me know in the comments section below.
If you tapped along with the video let me know if you felt a shift in your thinking. Were you better able to move forward and trust that things would work out fine?
