It can be easy to forget to love ourselves. If we are in relationships, we can focus all our love on the other person, or people that we love. On the flip side, if we are looking for love, often we’re looking for others to help us feel good and give us the love we crave.
But we don’t have to leave ourselves out of the equation. By cultivating self love, we create a strong foundation within from which to share our love with others … and it feels great when we connect with the emotion of love and foster it within us.
It hasn’t always been socially acceptable to admit to loving ourselves. In fact, when I was growing up people would say ‘ they really love themselves’ as a criticism, about people they thought were big headed or conceited.
Yet, if you can’t love yourself, how can you expect to be able to deeply give love or recieve it?
Sometimes, life is busy and there is usually lots to do, or we may have reasons why we don’t feel loveable but really, there is no reason worthy of cutting ourselves off from inner love.
So, make time for yourself today and give youself some extra love, with this gentle, yet powerful meditation.
I do this meditation every day, usually in the morning, to remind myself just how good love feels. I truly believe that love is the essence of who we are. When we act from a place of love and think from a place of love we allow our true nature to shine out.
Happy Valentine’s Day everyone – as Ghandi said ‘be the change you want to see in the world’, I hope that you may ‘be the love you want to see in the world’.
