What do you do when something ‘bad’ happens?
Last week I pulled a muscle in my back, which meant that I had to rest up and abandon many plans for the week. On the same day one of my cats injured a paw, so we were both on enforced rest for a few days.
Now, I could have got really fed up. I had plans to work in the garden getting it ready for spring planting and the weather was sunny and perfect for it. I could have been confused and disappointed at having back pain, as I’ve never suffered from it before. I could have been worried about my cat (he only has three legs, so being one paw ‘down’ was sort of a big deal).
Can you find any good in it?
Even though that path of worry and upset would have been easy to take, I decided to practice what I preach instead. I decided to appreciate the tools I had to help both myself and my cat. I appreciated the veterinary care we had locally for my cat. I appreciated how usually my back is really strong and pain free.
When my first attempt at easing my back pain wasn’t quite enough, I reached out to friends and in doing so re-connected with some wonderful energy techniques that I’d almost forgotten.
Can you focus on what you DO want instead?
I know, through the teachings of Abraham-Hicks, that when we’re in a situation we don’t want, we launch rockets of desire of what we do want. I decided to consciously focus on that process. Firstly, I focused on being pain free and realised how much I take that state for granted. I lay down and imagined the ease of having no pain or twinges in my back. It felt good.
Then I noticed how I wanted my back to be really strong and supple, how I wanted to physically feel good and have ease of movement again and for my energy system to be balanced and harmonious.
So, I felt into those desires and I did what I could to soothe my back and be gentle with myself. I gave myself permission to rest and relax and to focus on self healing.
How this turned things around for me.
It actually became a fun process to try different techniques and feel what worked best for me in the moment. After a couple of days I was able to do some gentle qi gong and it felt great.
What I didn’t anticipate is how much I’m feeling the benefit of these remembered energy techniqes and of doing my qi gong again. It feels so good to do my qi gong morning and night now and to integrate these other techniques into my day. I have an unfolding awareness that these things are exactly what I need in my life right now and that without having the pressing need to use them I would have let them drift to the sidelines and not made good use of them.
Why I now truly appreciate the situation.
So now, hand on heart, I can say that I really appreciate that back pain, for helping me re-connect with these tools and techniques that feel so good right now, for helping me think outside the box and have fun helping myself (I also had a great time experimenting with EFT to see what worked best for me – I should have guessed that it was to tap ‘with’ my muscles in the same way I tap for animals).
I truly believe that having a positive intention was paramount to allowing things to unfold like this. If I has sulked or grumbled about the situation I doubt I would have been able to turn this from seeming debilitating to being an empowering experience for me.
Can you turn around a negative situation?
So, keep looking for the good in everything, keep focusing on what you want and you’ll find the silver lining, whatever the issue.
