You get what you believe, not what you want.

A new friend shared the above aphorism with me recently  (you get what you believe, not what you want). It really struck a chord and inspired me to write this post.

Thank you dear friend 🙂

The Law of Attraction (LOA) states, according to the teachings of Abraham-Hicks, that you ask and it is given. So you could be forgiven for being confused if you ‘ask’ but don’t get what you ‘asked for’ or ‘want’ back. If this is the case, why then aren’t you getting what you want?

It’s not that LOA is taking a day off, or has forgotten, it’s just that you might be busy thinking about what you DON’T want and you are asking with those thoughts as well as your words or desire for what you do want.

Say that a friend wants a new job – one that is better paid, more interesting and easier to travel to. He has a ‘rocket’ of desire for that new job and it’s launched, just by him thinking about it. All is well and good if he BELIEVES wholeheartedly that it can happen. Yet, if he has beliefs that conflict with his desire, they get sent out too. Maybe he believes that jobs are scarce right now, people aren’t hiring, the recession means pay cuts for everyone or that it’s highly unlikely that he’ll find anything better than his current job. He might be talking to people who re-enforce those beliefs or he might just think them quietly to himself.

You can tell that your desire and belief in the desire are in discord if you think about the desire (e.g. a potential new job) and feel anything other than excited, optimistic or hopeful about it. So, if you are feeling doubtful, uncertain, sad or angry about it not happening that’s a big clue. Those negative feelings are your emotional guidance system letting you know that your desire and beliefs aren’t yet in harmony or alignment. That’s ok, in fact recognising it is great, because then you know what to work on to get clear and once you do clear them out (and I recommend EFT for this job) and have your beliefs and desires in harmony with each other, then it’s plain sailing.

The Universe is always looking for ways to give us what we want. Say that a different friend wanted a new job and didn’t have negative beliefs about getting one easily or evidence about how unlikely it is to get one. Their desire and beliefs are in harmony and it is more likely that they’ll have a ‘chance’ encounter with a friend who tells them about a suitable position, or they just ‘happen’ to see the perfect advertisement in the paper left on a train seat or coffee shop table.

It isn’t always that clear cut, but by weeding out those negative thoughts and changing your beliefs, then focusing positively on what you want (especially imagining how good it will feel – if that feels good while you do it) then you’re well on the way to manifesting your desires.
